St. Declan’s Way 2024 – Booking Now Open
We are delighted to announce that booking for ‘All Six Stages’ of St. Declan’s Way in 2024 is NOW OPEN.
St. Declan’s Way Guided walk in Six Stages for the first time!
Note: Stages 3 & 4, which were scheduled for April 6th & 7th, but had to be cancelled due to Storm Kathleen, have now been rescheduled to May 11th & 12th. The new dates can be booked through the booking link above.
All stages are approximately 21/22km long. Stage 3 crosses the Knockmealdown Mountains as far as Mount Melleray. It is the only stage with a significant ascent. See a map of the route and stages at the bottom of the page.

Stages 1 & 2
March 23rd & 24th
Cashel to Cahir &
Cahir to Goatenbridge
- First Stage: Saturday March 23rd
Cashel to Cahir
(park in Cahir, Bus to Cashel, walk to Cahir)
Approx. 21km – mainly back roads, occasional minor ascents.
- Second Stage: Sunday March 24th
Cahir to Goatenbridge
(park in Goatenbridge, Bus to Cahir, walk to Goatenbridge)
Approx. 20km – mainly flat back roads, tracks & trails, occasional minor ascents.
Stages 3 & 4
April 6th & 7th
Goatenbridge to Mount Melleray &
Mount Melleray to Lismore
- Third Stage: Saturday April 6th (***Rescheduled to May 11th***)
Goatenbridge to Mount Mallery Monastery. This stage has been rescheduled due to Storm Kathleen on the original date. (Park at Mount Mallery Monastery, Bus to Goatenbridge, Walk to Mount Mallery Monastery).
Approx. 20km, back roads & forest trails.
This stage is part of the Pilgrim Paths Week 2024 celebration.
Note: this stage crosses the Knockmealdown Mountains and will require a certain level of fitness. All
other stages are relatively flat
- Fourth Stage: Sunday April 7th (***Rescheduled to May 12th***)
Mount Mallery Monastery to Lismore. This stage has been rescheduled due to after-effects of Storm Kathleen on the original date. (Park at Lismore, Bus to Mount Mallery Monastery, Walk to Lismore).
Approx. 20km, Back roads & some forest trails early on, comparatively easier than stage 3 as it is
predominately downhill. This stage is part of the Pilgrim Paths Week 2024 celebration
Stages 5 & 6
April 20th & 21st
Lismore to Aglish &
Aglish to Ardmore
- Fifth Stage: Saturday April 20th
Lismore to Aglish
(park in Aglish, bus to Lismore, walk to Aglish)
20km – undulating back roads, some minor ascents
- Sixth Stage: Sunday April 21st
Aglish to Ardmore
(park in Ardmore, bus to Aglish, walk to Ardmore)
21km – undulating back roads with some minor ascents, & cleared tracks – finishes along the beach.
The 115km route is divided into the following six stages for the purposes of this event, walking from Cashel on March 23rd and finishing in Ardmore on April 21st.
What’s Included:
- Bus to walk start point (check in is at the day’s walk finish point, we then bus walkers to the walk start point and they walk back to where their car is parked).
- food before & after event
- marshals & stewards to guide you, as well as added signage on the route
- water stops & toilets along the route
- Civil Defence in case of emergencies &
- a comfort vehicle for anyone that needs assistance
Please Note:
When booking accommodation (not included in booking price), please book it at the walk finish point for any given stage, rather than the start point. Participants check-in at the walk finish point in the morning, are then bused to the walk start point and walk back to where their car is parked (and where their accommodation is). Eg. For Stage One, book accommodation in Cahir rather than Cashel. Morning check-in will be in Cahir, the bus will then bring you to Cashel, from where you’ll walk back to Cahir.
Participants must:
- Be over 16 years of age (or accompanied by an adult).
- Be in a fit physical condition.
- Have reasonable walking experience.
- Have wind and waterproof clothing & wear suitable footwear.
- Bring a fully charged mobile phone.
- Sign in at the start and finish check points on the day.
- Pay the entry fee in advance (booking will be online only).
- No dogs allowed – unfortunately we are not in a position to cater for them.
